Melbourne Trumpet Player
Bruce Bennett
Melbourne City is a Musical arena…
One of the enjoyable aspects of travelling around the local music scenes is to meet up with the locals in their favourite venue… there seems to be plenty of guitar players, and singers (with the occasional Saxophone), The main comment I receive is – not many trumpet players doing solos… it brings something different they say. It is encouraging to be a little exclusive, in the sense that I’m not competing but simply complimenting what everyone else is already doing.
Most of the places I play also provide their own back-line (sound system), either directly or through someone whom comperes events on behalf of the establishment. All I need is my laptop… plug in, a quick sound check, and play…
As a Melbourne trumpet player, I get to play at a lot of venues that offer Open mics during set days of the week… this suits me so that I can choose which place to play on a particular evening… especially during the summer months when more people tend to come for a meal or a drink, especially those whom would not otherwise venture out.
